July’s Birchbox has a nice, jolly Sun, Sea and Sand theme to it with some lovely seasidey treats which will be very handy to slip into our travel bags over the next few weeks.
I love this Laqa & CoLip Lube Pencil. Mine is in a pale peachy coral colour called Bees Knees which is a well pigmented but very light to wear lip colour. It seems to last a long time and it has a nice subtle sheen to it. A very nice summer shade and the light formula is really pleasant to wear.
I received an Oat shampoo sample from Weleda via Birchbox a few months ago and I was really impressed with it so I’m pleased to see this Millet shampoo sample. I have natural un-coloured hair and you will have seen in other posts how much I hate silicone in everyday hair products. Weleda are renowned for using all natural ingredients without compromising on the efficacy of their products so I’m excited to try this.
I like to receive bath and shower treats in beauty boxes as it’s a nice excuse for a pamper session. So as you can imagine this Sea Kelp Mineral Bath from Gilchrist & Soames gave me a happy.
Now, I’ve had this Balance Me Wonder Eye Cream previously in a Glossybox. That’s not to say I’m disappointed to receive it again. It’s a nice natural, hard working eye cream that is pleasant to use when you want a nice gentle pick me up under the eyes.
I hadn’t heard of Compagnie de Provence before but they look like quite an interesting brand that I may have to investigate some more. I love the look of their soap cubes and their glass bottled liquid soaps look very stylish. I use a hell of a lot of hand cream and I’m looking forward to trying out this Mediterranean Sea hand cream as an introduction to this French brand.
Retardex has re-branded itself Ultra Dex. Good call. The brand is famous for it’s fresh breath sprays and this is handy to slip into my bag to freshen up throughout the day.
Once again Birchbox have come up with a great selection of quality, usable and interesting samples.
I’m a notorious carrier of what my other half refers to as ‘inordinately large’ bags but I’m a firm believer that one day that kitchen sink WILL save the day so it is very rare that you’ll find me leaving the house without a sizeable bag. I fell in love with this Matt and Nat Gil bag in peach though and I’ve found that it is roomy enough to carry all the essentials for an afternoon out, especially with the help of a few of the sample sized pieces from my beauty boxes.
I love Matt and Nat products. Firstly, as a vegetarian I avoid leather products when possible. That makes life hard for a bag lover and limits choices somewhat but Matt and Nat really come to the rescue with their fantastically designed and well made bags. Their designs are beautfully stylish and often ahead of the curve but wonderfully simple too. The Gil Bag is small but has several roomy interior pockets for all your essentials. The design and details on this bag are just perfect.
On to the contents of my downsized summer bag! I usually prefer to carry a large purse/wallet with every card and reciept handy but as there is no way it would fit in here I picked up this cute blue/green purse from Amazon it’s the perfect size for a little cash and a few cards and looks really pretty and summery too. And of course my Iphone goes everywhere with me too. The case is from Elago and I really cannot recommend these enough. Very hard wearing and fabulous colours not so cheap, but I find they last much longer that cheaper ones I’ve tried so in the long term great value.
I’ve done really well and managed to keep the beauty bits down to the bear minimum. My beauty box subscriptions have helped with this as I have a ready supply of awesome mini’s to dip into.
My essentials are hand cream and Sunscreen for top ups on the go or if I get caught out by Britain’s crazy, changeable weather. This Molton Brown Rhubarb and Rose Hand Cream has a lovely summery scent and the tube is really pretty too. Coola’s Organic Suncare range is brilliant and this Broad spectrum, SPF 30 moisturiser for the face is very effective and the cucumber scent a nice refreshing touch.I’ve posted about these two lovelies earlier in the summer and they have become my go to lipsticks. They both also have the added benefit of having quite moisturising formulas so I don’t need to find room for an addition lip balm in my tiny bag. Mac ‘Shanghai Spice’ Is a gorgeous sheeny, pink, nude with a hint of coral. Spot on for summer and Chanel ‘Mutine’ is a beautiful, delicate light pink.
As well as those all important beauty bits the ‘gil’ bag also has enough space for those dull necessities, tissues, keys, mints. It’s a bit of a tardis really! I love the design and layout of this bag, it manages retain a very pretty look whilst having a very utilitarian design in terms of pockets and compartments. I’m still an ‘inordinately large’ bag girl at heart but it’s nice to travel light occasionally especially in the summer.
A fantastic box from Glossybox this month. With a stars and stripes theme to celebrate American Independence Day this box is full of great American classic beauty staples and some awesome cult brands.Bellapierre Cosmestics produce high quality natural, mineral based cosmetics and have a rapidly growing customer base in the US and over here in th UK. I have been hearing good things about their products for a while and I’m pleased to have the chance to sample this lipstick. Now colour-wise I think this bold orange tinted red ‘Mandarina’ shade may be a little outside my comfort zone so I’m not sure I’ll wear it much but the formula of the lipstick itself is just perfect. Well pigmented, comfortable to wear and very long lasting. I’ll be checking out more of Bellapierre’s products on the basis of this. This lipstick retails at around £20 so this is also a great value product to appear in a Glossybox.Carmex needs no introduction but is one of those products that is always great to have hanging around in you bag, car, desk drawer etc. So this is a welcome find based on the theory that you can never have too many lipbalms in your life. Another full sized product too.Out of all of the items in this months box I’m most excited to try Tarte’s Lights, Camera, Lashes Mascara. Their has been quite a buzz around Tarte for a while and I have really wanted to try their blushes and lipsticks. The only snag is that until recently they have been tricky to get hold of in the UK but now they are available via QVC’s website so happy days! Tarte are another company with a natural, cruelty free ethos which coupled with their reputation for quality, well formulated and beautiful looking products make this a must try brand for any beauty lover. Always a sucker for a good volumising mascara this is the perfect product to introduce me to Tarte.
I received a Color club nail polish a few months back in a Birchbox and it has become a bit of a summer favourite so this full sized polish in Glossy Seal is a very welcome find. The colour itself is a navy blue with a hint of teal, produced especially for Glossybox this is a very interesting and beautiful colour. I can’t quite decide if it is a summer colour or not but either way it is gorgeous and will get plenty of use.Last but not least Absolute’s Perfecting Eyeshadow Primer. Not the most exciting addition and not a brand I’m familiar with but I love a good eye primer and tend to use a lot so having another one to chuck in my make-up bag is great. Also another good sized sample so again great value.
This is a great box from Glossybox. A really thoughtful and beauty savvy selection with some full sized items and good sized samples this reminds me of why I used to love Glossybox so much and why I keep subscribing.
